Making the most of the space & view

Client situation

Access to the stunning views in Balmain often requires vertical living in smaller spaces across levels - and sometimes makes for awkward flow.
Making the most of the view and space requires creativity in design.
This home had been updated various times over the years, oftentimes one room at a time, which led to a lack of cohesion and connectedness across the space.
The owners wanted to tackle the open plan kitchen/meals/lounge room and add a rooftop deck for access to more outdoor space. The space needed reconfiguration, as well as a significant update.

Design needs

To update the space and maximise the amazing views
To create more storage in the kitchen
To allow easy flow entertaining and movement between the spaces
To improve functionality
To make better use of "empty" space in the lower level to accommodate family and guests from overseas

Interior design outcome

A contemporary, open kitchen with a view
More functional kitchen storage
More practical floorplan, allowing greater real estate for the kitchen
Creation of a self-contained guest quarter in what was wasted space previously for longer-term overseas guests

Making the Shed House their own

Client situation

A colour-loving family with eclectic taste and extensive renovation and real estate experience was building a new home in Moss Vale, NSW.
They had a keen sense of design and were looking for a design partner to help translate their vision into reality.
Plans are done, but the build had not yet begun.
They wanted a designer who could keep them on track and bring all their diverse ideas together to create a cohesive look that was their own.

Design needs

To feel like their own home
To curate for their eclectic style, whilst feeling warm and inviting, but also a bit moody and dark
Avoid boring or neutral items and combine natural elements, whilst avoiding looking too country
To keep the family on track and focus on a cohesive design and help them visualise the end result before the build

Interior design outcome

An overall colour scheme and mood board for the home to keep them tied to the cohesive feel
Kitchen design, including technical plans, drawings, elevations and computer-aided renders
Furniture, finishes, fixtures, and equipment documentation for the Open plan area/Kitchen/Lounge/Pantry
3D model of the home and panoramas so they could visualise it before it was built
The client said we helped them create a vision, pulled their ideas together and create a cohesive, yet unique look

Making it my own

Client situation

This is my house. I share it with my husband, Dan, and our 17 year-old jack russell terrier, Kevin Noodles
We moved into a home that had been renovated completely, but we wanted to put our mark on it.
We wanted to keep the bones of the house, but make it feel like ours.
It was also important to us to continue to use items that were meangingful to us, such as artwork and mementos.

More space for a growing family

Client situation

The owners of this semi-detached home moved into the property before they started a family. Now with three school-aged children, they need updated storage solutions and functionality to support their family-friendly lifestyle.
Working together, we defined three areas to focus on: laundry/bath, lounge room storage, and kitchen

Kitchen update to elevate style and make the space work better for them
Greater storage in the combined bath/laundry area
Stylish storage solution in the open plan lounge space

It’s way more functional, spacious, bright
The kitchen is easier to keep clean and we haven’t even filled all the storage space yet

Introducing their own sense of style

Client situation

The clients moved from a modern and larger home and were downsizing into an Inner West heritage home.
They wanted the home to reflect their personal style and to arrange eclectic pieces of furniture and artworks in a unifying way.

To unite their vintage style with contemporary pieces
To create the homey moods they wanted throughout the house

Functionality & beauty in an office setting

Client situation

The client was moving into a new office that was unfurnished. He wanted to furnish and decorate the office in a stylish, contemporary, but budget-friendly way. And, he was moving in quickly, so he needed help managing lead times.
The office had great light and bones, but zero personality.

Revamping a guestroom into an artist's workspace

Client situation

The client was moving into a new phase of life and wanted to focus greater time professionally on her artwork.
She also wanted to reflect her personal art in an aesthetically pleasing way throughout her home.
She wanted the home to feel like her and to function effectively as a full-time artist.

To create a beautiful and functional artist studio from an unused guest bedroom
To display her personal artwork and art throughout her home
To create a home that was light and reflected her personality

Furnishing their first long-term home together

Client situation

The clients had moved into their first long-term apartment that was much larger than their prior apartment and they needed help decorating and furnishing it.
They didn’t know where to start shopping and how to bring it all together within their budget.

To create a home that reflected their combined design styles
To do it on time and on budget
To create a new space where guests could stay, they could entertain friends, and enjoy their first permanent home together

Interior design outcome

An updated colour and furnishing selections that suited their different personality. We created 3 options for them and went from there in refining it to suit their needs.
